Addressing the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Secretary of the RA Security Council Armen Grigoryan said in a conversation with “News” that Azerbaijan is not in any way disposed to the process of establishing peace in the region.

“All our international partners are involved in order to establish peace in the region. You know that the USA and the Russian Federation were co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in Armenia and Baku. There is international involvement in Brussels. There are also arrangements to start peace negotiations at the level of foreign ministers, and our Foreign Ministry was preparing for that. Armenia was going to organize that meeting within a month and we were discussing this with all our partners. Instead of organizing that meeting, Azerbaijan is organizing large-scale aggression against Armenia.”

According to Grigoryan, Azerbaijan wants to torpedo the peace process, and withdraw from all the agreements that existed, because in the last two years there were agreements that were public, for example, de-encirclement of the region, delimitation-demarcation. 

“Instead of fulfilling those agreements, Azerbaijan starts aggression and completely torpedoes all the existing processes. On the battlefield, he wants to invade the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and occupy the territory of the Republic of Armenia. From a military point of view, I think the Ministry of Defense can clearly say what is the goal of Azerbaijan. But even at this moment, Azerbaijan does not hide its aspirations towards the sovereign territory of Armenia.”

Grigoryan said that Armenia’s expectation from the CSTO is that this structure will provide sufficient military assistance to Armenia so that the Azerbaijani troops will be withdrawn from the territory of Armenia.

“Regarding the claims whether there is a border between Armenia and Azerbaijan or not, naturally there is a border and it is clear. I think that our partners should be aware that the countries of the Soviet Union recognized the borders of their countries by the agreement signed in the capital of their country, Almaty. Azerbaijan also bombards communities and not seeing that means having vision problems.”
