The Deputy PM of Azerbaijan responded to Armenia’s proposal to create 3 checkpoints on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border

We consider the proposal of the Armenian government to establish 3 checkpoints on the border with Azerbaijan as an imitation of the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by point 9 of the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev.

“According to the results of the conducted monitoring, the roads from those points are not suitable for transport connection with Nakhichevan and international transit transportation, which is one of the goals of the restoration of communications. In addition, as a rule, checkpoints are opened based on the mutual agreement of the parties. There was no agreement on this issue with Azerbaijan. Thus, the main reason for non-fulfillment of the conditions of point 9 regarding the transport communication of the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan is the reluctance of Armenia to present the optimal route of the motor road proposed by the same monitoring,” said the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan.

It should be reminded that RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia is waiting for a positive response from Azerbaijan regarding the opening of 3 checkpoints.
