Armenian and Azerbaijani Deputy PMs meet at the state border 

On May 24, 2022, within the framework of the implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries and in accordance with the relevant orders, the first meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev was held in the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, within the format of the joint work of the commissions on delimitation and border security between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The sides reiterated their readiness to work on delimitation and other relevant issues, including border security issues within the commissions.

Organizational and procedural issues of the commission’s joint activities were discussed. Along with the meetings at the interstate border, the sides agreed on the expediency of different platforms for further meetings of the commissions. In particular, an agreement was reached to hold the second meeting in Moscow and the third one in Brussels.

Charles Michel, the President of European Council welcomed the meeting between Deputy Prime Ministers of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

“Warmly welcome first meeting of Border Commissions held today on Armenia-Azerbaijan border to advance discussions on delimitation of inter-state border and how best to ensure stable situation,” Michel, wrote on Twitter adding that it’s a tangible progress following trilateral meeting with Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev. 

 

PM Pashinyan holds phone talk with Antony Blinken

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The Secretary of State praised the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Armenia aimed at establishing peace and stability in the region, as well as the process of democratic reforms in Armenia.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, opening of regional communications, regional security issues.

Prime Minister Pashinyan shared his impressions of the trilateral meeting held in Brussels on May 22, emphasizing that although the meeting was generally positive, unfortunately, comments unrelated to the content of the discussions were voiced after the meeting.

The Secretary of State reaffirmed the US readiness to continue supporting Armenia’s democratic reforms, the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the demarcation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, the opening of regional communications, and the establishment of regional stability.

The sides also referred to the Armenia-Turkey discussions at the level of special representatives. The interlocutors agreed to continue Armenia-US high-level contacts.
