Our proposal for a peace treaty remains unanswered, but we still hope that the multilateral confrontation on the part of Armenia will stop. Aliyev at the meeting with Lavrov
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev touched upon regional issues at the meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Baku.
He said that they will talk about the situation in the region, the post-conflict situation, the process of settling relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“You know our position. This position is aimed at establishing long-term peace in the region. I’m sure that our efforts will be positively accepted by Armenia, and the multilateral confrontation will stop. Our proposal to start work on a peace treaty remains unanswered, but we still hope that this proposal will be accepted.
On the positive side, I would like to note the activation of the work of the trilateral working group chaired by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. A new meeting took place in St. Petersburg the other day: we hope that practical steps will be taken to implement the declaration of November 2020 (statement) in the context of opening communications, ensuring unhindered transportation of Azerbaijani goods and citizens to the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. This is the legal obligation of the Armenian side. Unfortunately, more than a year and a half has passed since the end of the Second Karabakh War, but this paragraph of the declaration (statement )has not yet been fulfilled. I think that within the framework of our concept it will be possible to take very practical steps to fully resolve the situation. Of course, we look forward to the effective efforts of the Russian Federation to establish a stable peace in the Caucasus,” Aliyev said.
Moscow is ready to contribute to the work of Baku and Yerevan in clarifying the common border and has concrete proposals, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
According to Lavrov, Russia can provide consulting services to two commissions created by both sides for the demarcation and delimitation of the border.
He also promised to unblock transport communications in the region, noting progress in this direction.
“We have a common understanding of how to solve the problem of organizing the movement of cars in the most convenient way so that artificial obstacles are not created,” Lavrov said, adding that he is consulting with Armenia on this issue.
