The Secretary of the Security Council met the Deputy Secretary of State of Poland

Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the RA Security Council, met with Bogdan Borusewicz, Vice President of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, on November 8 in Warsaw.

As reported by the RA Security Council office, the parties discussed the existing security challenges in the South Caucasus. The Secretary of the Council of Armenia presented the regional developments.

It is noted that the secretary of the RA Council of Ministers and the vice-chairman of the Polish Senate both emphasized the process of establishing democratic institutions in Armenia. In this context, Bogdan Borusewicz expressed his support for democratic Armenia.

The role of Poland as an OSCE co-chair country in contributing to regional stability was emphasized on both sides.

The parties discussed other issues related to the scope of bilateral interest. They also outlined the perspectives of cooperation in the security sector and agreed to continue bilateral discussions.

US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price referred to the latest meeting between Armenian, and Azerbaijani foreign ministers and the US Secretary of State. 
 
“Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken hosted Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov for direct discussions at Blair House on November 7 to facilitate progress toward a lasting peace agreement.  The meeting today underscores Armenia’s and Azerbaijan’s serious pursuit of peace through intensified dialogue. The United States remains committed to supporting a peaceful South Caucasus region” Price said in an announcement.

Ilham Aliyev issued threats from captured Shushi

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made a speech today, November 8, on the occasion of “Victory Day” in the occupied Shushi of Artsakh.

Aliyev once again claimed that Armenia does not fulfill the points of the tripartite declaration signed on November 9, 2020, in particular, “it has not completely withdrawn its armed forces from Karabakh, has not provided the “Zangezur Corridor” and regularly engages in military provocations.”

“Of course, we should be ready and we are,” Aliyev said.

Aliyev claimed that Karabakh is Azerbaijan’s land, and Russian peacekeepers are there temporarily.

“We are a fair country, if we have undertaken some obligation, then we fulfill it. We want peace, we don’t want war. Peace, but fair peace. The conditions we put forward are fair, based on international law, and the peace agreement should be signed under those conditions,” Aliyev noted.

Toivo Klaar commented on the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan that took place in Washington

Toivo Klaar, Designated EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia referred to the meeting between Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Washington.

“Important meeting yesterday between Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Washington. Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Washington. It is encouraging that Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov are engaged in a substantive process of negotiations for a bilateral peace treaty,” he wrote.

Mirzoyan and Bayramov reaffirmed the commitments made by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Prague and Sochi

On November 7, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov had a meeting in the US capital, Washington. The ministers were hosted at Blair House, where a joint meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was also held.

 The foreign ministers exchanged views on the elements of a possible peace agreement and noted that there are a number of issues that still need to be addressed.  The two sides reaffirmed the commitments made by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the meetings held on October 6 in Prague and October 31 in Sochi.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to give momentum to their negotiations and hold another meeting in the coming weeks.

The two ministers expressed their gratitude to the American side for hosting the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Later today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov referred to the meeting held in the USA yesterday, November 7, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, and the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

“At the initiative of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, I had a meeting with RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Washington. I reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment and readiness for the soonest conclusion of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement, and urged to refrain from actions that would undermine the process,” Bayramov wrote.
