Azerbaijan’s attack on the Republic of Armenia

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense Aram Torosyan informs that since 20:00 the fire in all directions has almost stopped, no significant incidents have been recorded.

CSTO Press Secretary Vladimir Zaynetdinov informed that the first group of CSTO mission members will arrive in Armenia tomorrow. The group will be led by the head of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov․ CSTO General Secretary Stanislav Zas will go to Armenia next week.

American Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Philip Reeker met today in Baku with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. During the negotiations, the parties discussed the topic of clashes that started on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The American diplomat noted that Washington is “in favor of a political and diplomatic solution to the existing differences and is ready to support the settlement process in every possible way.”

During the day, PM Nikol Pashinyan announced that another 10 square kilometers have been occupied from Armenia [on May 12 last year, they occupied 40 square kilometers]. Pashinyan said it’s a fact that the enemy has invaded the territory of Armenia and the RA Armed Forces are working to eliminate this. 

“t. And the claim that there is no border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not true. That border exists, and it has been violated by Azerbaijan, which carried out two-stage aggression,”  Pashinyan said.

He noted that he has taken the responsibility of making difficult decisions for the sake of peace, but this does not mean that these decisions should contradict the state interests of the Republic of Armenia.

“We must go to them to guarantee the security of Armenia, lasting peace. We want to sign a paper, as a result of which many people will criticize us, curse us, call us traitors, the people may even decide to remove us from power, and we will be grateful if as a result of this, Armenia will get lasting peace and security with an area of ​​29.800 square kilometers. I will most likely sign the decision that will ensure this. I am not interested in what will happen to me, I am interested in what will happen to the Republic of Armenia,” Pashinyan stated.

The European Forest Fire Information informed that analyzing the satellite data of active fires on the Earth’s surface in the eastern and southeastern borders of Armenia, it can be stated that Azerbaijan has unleashed a large-scale attack against Armenia.

• A protest rally is currently taking place in front of the National Assembly. The participants demand the MPs to express no confidence in Nikol Pashinyan. During the protest action in front of the National Assembly, the participants gave MPs 1 hour to come to the National Assembly and sign the document expressing no confidence in the Prime Minister.

• Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan  Mukhtar Tileuberdi in his statement on September 14, 2022, mentioned that the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not demarcated, therefore “it is difficult to talk about any violation of the border”.

  However, contrary to the statement of the foreign minister of the CSTO member state, the military operations are not taking place on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan, but in the sovereign territory of Armenia, targeting Armenian settlements and cities. 

• The Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan addressed the tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, calling on the parties to resolve the situation through negotiations.

• In addition to our yesterday’s request to apply interim measures against Azerbaijan, we submitted an additional request d to the European Court of Human Rights to apply an interim measure for the protection of the fundamental rights of the servicemen seen in the videos.

• Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu “called on Yerevan to start a dialogue with Baku”. 

• Moscow expects that at the next meeting of the Russia-Azerbaijan-Armenia working group, it will be possible to reach a package of agreement on the construction of roads, focusing on the launch of rail and road connections between Azerbaijan and Armenia, with possible access to neighboring countries.

• On September 13, Foreign Minister of  Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone conversation with Foreign Minister of France Catherine Colonna, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports.

• Canada is very concerned by the rise in hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said on Twitter.
