Aliyev believes Azerbaijan and Armenia can sign a peace treaty within a few months
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan and Armenia can prepare and sign a peace treaty within a few months.
“I think we can finish the work and sign a peace agreement within a few months,” Aliyev said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, according to Interfax.
Aliyev considered one of the most important results of the negotiations with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held in Brussels on August 31, through the mediation of the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, the agreement of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan in order to start negotiations on a peace agreement.
According to Aliyev, the peace agreement will be built on five main principles. He claims that the Armenian side accepted them.
Ararat Mirzoyan commented on some speculations about the meeting in Brussels
The Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan’s commented on some speculations following the Brussels meeting.
“The point of view of the Armenian side regarding the five points proposed by Azerbaijan is unchanged. As we said before, there is nothing unacceptable for us in the proposals forwarded by Azerbaijan on March 10, 2022. The thing is that these proposals do not address all issues of the Armenia-Azerbaijan comprehensive peace agenda. With our response to the co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, we completed the agenda, and therefore, on that basis, we are ready for the continuation of peace negotiations.
This was once again confirmed by Prime Minister Pashinyan during the recent discussions held in Brussels.
Not listening to this point of view or trying to not listen to it gives the Armenian side a reason to doubt the sincerity of Azerbaijan’s intention to achieve peace. Moreover, the continuous arbitrary, untrue interpretations of the negotiations and the avoidance of the implementation of the agreements allow thinking that Azerbaijan is bent on subverting the peace process and continuing its policy of ethnic cleansing through the use of force.
Baku condemned the visit of the Armenian Security Council Secretary to Stepanakert
Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Armenia’s Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan’s visit to Stepanakert yesterday, claiming that it jeopardizes efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to the statement, “that illegal step” taken by an Armenian official immediately after the meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Brussels, “clearly shows Armenia’s insincerity in the settlement process.”
“That illegal visit” proves that Armenia’s statements about not having territorial claims against Azerbaijan are “far from sincere”. Official Yerevan does not respect the efforts of international mediators either, according to the APA news agency, Baku asserts and assures that “Azerbaijan’s territory within the international borders all steps taken against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will be answered.
On the occasion of Artsakh Independence Day, official Yerevan did not send a delegation to Stepanakert, and at the end of the day, Armen Grigoryan announced in a Facebook post that he visited the fraternal memorial-pantheon of Stepanakert and laid flowers.
