On May 5, the NA President of Armenia Alen Simonyan received the RA Human Rights Defender Kristinne Grigoryan.

Highlighting the activities of the Human Rights Defender, the RA NA President underlined that in the institutional aspect it is one of the most stable structures in our country. He stressed that the activities of the institution of the Human Rights Defender that inspire confidence serve as a best indicator for the scale of democracy in different countries. Alen Simonyan added that the solution of many problems related to the rights in state and local self-government bodies is under the jurisdiction of the Human Rights Defender.

According to the Human Rights Defender, the RA Ombudsman has passed an impressive way of establishment, and work on its development and improvement is necessary for our state, facing numerous challenges.

The sides discussed systematic issues related to human rights in public perceptions, referring to the current processes taking place in our country. Both sides highlighted the cooperation of the National Assembly and the Human Rights Defender, including at the level of the relevant committees.

The Human Rights Defender drew the NA President’s attention to the necessity of legislative reforms related to human rights in some spheres and elaboration of legislative initiatives.

At the end of the meeting, the importance of the preventive work of the Ombudsman with the NA and other state bodies was emphasized once again.
