Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko discussed the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border at a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas on November 1. As the BELTA agency writes, the head of the country spoke as openly and honestly as possible about this and other issues related to the situation in the CSTO.

“This conflict (between Armenia and Azerbaijan – ed.) must be ended. And God forbid, we will provoke a conflict on the Tajik border. This is also unacceptable. We have to put an end to this. It will not work if we cannot stop these conflicts within the CSTO framework. We should seriously discuss these issues at the next CSTO session,” said the head of Belarus.

Lukashenko also noted that Russia is already a mediator in the settlement of the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and that is enough.

“The war is over. It’s clear how it ended. The parties have decided that they need a mediator. This is a classic norm. Naturally, it is Russia. They turned to Russia. Russia deployed hundreds of people there. We remember how airplanes used to fly. Russian border guards, as Putin said, are located in all parts of the border. And with Turkey, with Iran there, and between Armenia and Azerbaijan, etc. Well, what else do you need? Let them work in this direction. It was not for nothing that I said that a certain game was going on. I understand what kind of game it is, why they dragged the European Union into it, and why they drag the OSCE there. Well, why? Well, it is understandable why. What will they do there if there is already a mediator there? And the CSTO should also be involved in it. It seems there is nothing else to do,” Lukashenko said.
