Garo Paylan, an Armenian member of the Turkish Parliament, and a member of the “People’s Democratic” party wrote a post on his Facebook page, referring to the blockade of the Lachin Corridor by the Azerbaijanis.
“The Lachin Corridor, the only transportation route connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, has been kept closed for more than two weeks by an Azerbaijani group who identify themselves as “environmental activists” and Azerbaijani security forces.
Due to the closure of the Lachin Corridor, the crisis of access to basic needs such as food and medicine in Nagorno-Karabakh is growing every day. 120 thousand Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh are trapped. This blockage, which is turning into a humanitarian crisis, must be ended as soon as possible.
Turkey should not remain insensitive to the growing humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. Political structures should take immediate action on this matter. I call on President Erdogan to take responsibility for ending the blockade in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The establishment of peace in the Caucasus is also for Turkey’s benefit. If we all take responsibility for ending the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, we can have a positive agenda both in the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process and the Turkey-Armenia normalization process.”
