During today’s government session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan touched upon the decision to nominate Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahagn Khachaturyan to the post of President of Armenia.

“Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahagn Khachaturyan was nominated as a candidate for President of the Republic, and was nominated by 65 MPs, which gives some confidence that Mr. Khachaturyan will not only be nominated, but will also be elected President of the Republic of Armenia. I’m not congratulating you now, it’s probably not appropriate to congratulate you on nomination, it’s probably appropriate to congratulate you on your election, and I hope, Mr. Khachaturyan, that before the elections to be held in March, you will fulfill your role as Minister of High-tech Industry fully, and during this time we will continue to work effectively together in the government.”

Kachaturyan replied: “I understand what it means to nominate a candidate for a political force, there are more worthy people inside the political party, but this decision of the political party is worthy of high praise, personally I express my gratitude.”

Khachaturyan added that he will continue to work with greater responsibility.
