Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan, who is on a working visit to Russia, held a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu today.
During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues of Armenian-Russian relations, exchanged views on ensuring regional and international security.
Sergey Shoygu highly appreciated the work that has recently been carried out between the Ministries of Defense of the two countries to develop bilateral cooperation and solve the regional problems.
The Russian Defense Minister stressed that the Russian Federation will continue to make every effort to strengthen peace in Nagorno-Karabakh and peacefully resolve the situation in the border areas of Armenia.
The Russian Defense Minister expressed gratitude for the fact that, despite the existing problems, Armenia continues to participate in the humanitarian mission in Syria.
The Armenian Defense Minister presented the operational situation around the borders of Armenia, noting the importance of the mediation efforts of Russia in the peaceful resolution of the situation. Arshak Karapetyan stressed that the Republic of Armenia continues to remain faithful to the establishment of lasting peace in the region and the continuation of negotiations in this direction, at the same time, Armenia will not tolerate the occupation of its border areas and will take all necessary steps to restore its territorial integrity.
The Armenian Defense Minister expressed gratitude for the peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh, noting that due to the efforts of Russian peacekeepers peaceful life in Nagorno-Karabakh has been restored. The Defense Minister stressed the inadmissibility of provocations and violations of the ceasefire regime carried out by the Azerbaijani side periodically in the area of responsibility of the peacekeepers.
